Artist Statement: In going from the initial concepts, feelings, and resources to arrive at a finished piece, I do drawings from life and from images, gestural in nature, and then approach the paintings with the same gestural attitude. My painting application is an almost visceral response to gesture and the image develops from that initial, physical stimulus. Visual details come last as the painting is completed. The subject matter that engages my interest is the world around me, the figure, the figure in a setting, an event or activity, a landscape, a still life, a model located within a defined space and her/his spatial relationship with me as a painter. I work very fast and furiously capturing images with quick impressions and turning them into finished pieces. My paint application is similar to Abstract Expressionist techniques with using realistic subject
