May’s Still Life Show and Other Celebrations
With sidewalk construction work completed and some gorgeous spring days under our belt, the Marietta Square is alive with activities like this week’s Art Walk. The arrival of the First Friday signals the opening of our May Still Life show and we are bursting at the seams with fresh florals and compelling still life works.
Of course, May marks another important occasion on the calendar—Mothers Day. If you need a plan for spending time with mom, we’ve got your perfect afternoon. What better way to celebrate than to bring Mom to a nice lunch or dinner on The Square and to see a show featuring joyous flowers and dreamy interior spaces that never need to be tidied up?
Seriously. We know what moms like.
Check out these still life works by Jodie Hutchens. These soothing interiors ooze harmony in their composition and in the efficient use of strokes and color. White is a show off in these paintings, holding its own amongst the prismatic florals in the gallery. And these fabrics need never be drycleaned.
Hutchens has a background in design, and that passion has shaped this current body of work:
“Careful consideration of color palette, medium and brush stroke weighs heavily on my process. I try to capture curious moments; seizing on a situation or evocative light that elevates the mundane to the fantastic, and reveals a projection of myself through my subject matter. “ – Jodie Hutchens
Still lifes capture a moment in time. Is this your moment?
Or maybe this is your moment?
We have lots of ideas for Mothers Day, and all your other celebrations. Come in and enjoy the Still Life show all month long.
