The 6th Day: A show featuring equine and wild life inaugural artist Susan Easton Burns
Susan Easton Burns has been with dk Gallery since is inception in 2008, and she continues to bring forth her provocative creatures on canvas in fresh and compelling ways. Her stirring paintings explore the connection between man and animal, and guide the audience to truths only they can perceive.
The name of this show is “The 6th Day.” When asked, Susan had this to say about her spiritual connection to animals, “Animals remind me that we came from the dirt. We once lived in the dirt and in this world today, we forget that. Each artist must express what they are feeling in a deep way, while connecting with what’s happening around them. I see people forgetting our simple roots and making life more complex than needs to be. We have forgotten how to relax and do things as simple as breathing. I live on a farm where I see and hear many animals, and some only in the dark. Even total darkness is not experienced by most people anymore.”
Burns was named the 2014 Kentucky Derby artist, and has been celebrated with a number of shows over the years. In talking with her about the journey that she has shared with dk Gallery she reflected, “Donna has done a great job in getting dk Gallery on the map. It is an exciting place to go see new and great work. I look forward to seeing all of the new art and I am constantly surprised by the job that Donna does.”
Among other artists, Julia Burns, Susan’s daughter will also have work in the show. A shared love of horses, Julia’s beautiful sculptural work is a perfect complement to her mother’s paintings. Working together with Julia is “double happiness for me,” Susan says.
